This is a universal 8-output driver, switching to ground. On many of our controllers and other boards, the output stage can be built with either this driver or a positive-voltage-switching driver instead, depending on whether your device needs its control line pulled down to ground or pulled up to a positive voltage - this is the "switch to ground" option.
